When I made the decision to lose my gut and get in shape, I thought long and hard about what kind of program to follow. After spending years telling myself “I know what I’m doing” and “I don’t need to waste money on something I already know” I noticed I wasn’t actively doing anything to get myself in shape. So I did quite a bit of research on the Internet for a solid program, one that would not only tell me what to do but also keep me motivated and inspired, and found this one.
But first, let me ask you a simple question: Which Body Would You Want?
I wanted to look like the guy in the MIDDLE! Back when I started I looked a lot more like the guy on the Left. And most of the training and fitness guides I found online were geared towards guys wanting to look like the guy on the Right. I don’t know about you, but that look just wasn’t for me.
Like you, I was very skeptical about buying a program over the Internet. But when I sat down and thought about it, I realized that a session of personal training at any of my local gyms would cost at least $50 per hour, which was way more than than I ended up spending for a program that doesn’t expire after one hour.
The next question: How to weed through the hundreds – if not thousands – of programs out there. A friend recommended the Athletic Body Workout by Eddie Lomax, and I hesitantly agreed. Back then I felt as though I was “giving in” since I knew it was going to read just like all the others I had read or watched. But after reading through the first couple of pages I noticed myself actually learning new things – tid bits of fitness information that the other programs didn’t even touch. “I’ll give it a try” I told myself, and I haven’t looked back since.
And the results? Well they speak for themselves. Not only have I dropped weight and lost my infamous “beer gut” (even though I never drank beer), but I built some solid muscle, toned up and now look like an athlete. I have to admit it’s much more flattering to be asked if I play for the local minor league hockey team than if I’m a competitive eater!
To this day I still go back to the workouts and routines Lomax prescribed in his program, though I’ll occasionally mix it up with two others that I’ve listed below (and also recommend).
1st: Athletic Body Workout: Absolute Top Choice
I’m particularly fond of the Athletic Body Workout because it’s the program I first used to melt away my gut and build some hard, chiseled muscles. Unlike most programs out there, this one isn’t designed to make you look like a body builder, it’s designed to make you look like an athlete. Long story short, you won’t look “bulk” like Arnold, but cut and ripped like Jason Statham or Tom Brady.
If you’re wanting that “just right” look – the kind you see on covers of magazines and staring in major motion pictures – this program will get you there. It’s packed with loads of great information you won’t find anywhere else, but never gets that overly-academic tone that so many of the other fitness products have. Nor does it bulk you up like a body builder.
It’s written specifically for guys, though many ladies have forwarded some very impressive success stories as well… so long as you don’t mind being referenced as a dude. But the fact that it’s written specifically for guys is what attracted me to this system, since there are some (obvious!) major differences between the two genders, especially in regards to losing weight, building muscle and getting in shape.
Who Is It For? The trainers/authors wrote this one especially for the type of guys who are at the beginning of their journey: Specifically, if you’re out of shape, got a gut, are stick-figure skinny and/or don’t have much solid muscle mass. It’s what I used when I needed some serious help.
But don’t fall victim into thinking this is only for beginners. I still use this program almost exclusively, even after I reached my fitness and body goals.
Pros: This system will shed unwanted body fat and build rock-solid muscle without giving you that bulky, “bodybuilder” look. It’s the body type that most guys say they want, and the one that women admire. And it’s less than $20 (that’s way cheaper than any personal trainer will charge you just for an hour)!
Cons: The author writes with so much enthusiasm that it’s exhausting just reading it. It’s also an ongoing workout system, which makes it difficult to jump back in where you left off should you miss a day or two.

2nd: Gladiator Body Workout: The Look Of A Professional Fighter
The Gladiator Body Workout combines high-intensity body weight exercises with dumbbell movements to maximize muscle growth, strength and size in a very short amount of time. The authors experimented until they found the ultimate combination of workout routines that will get most folks to their fitness goals in the least amount of time possible, and look like Greek Gods by the time it’s said and done.
Who is it for? This program will get you big and, to a certain extent, bulky – in the bodybuilder kind of way. Even so, you won’t look over-the-top muscle bound, kind of like an Ultimate Fighter or Football Linebacker.
Pros: If you’re looking to pack on some serious muscle in a very short amount of time, then you won’t find anything on the market that compares to the Gladiator Body Workout. This is especially helpful for those on the “skinny” side who would rather bulk up then tone up.
Cons: Not interested in packing on a good 15 pounds of solid muscle? Then you might want to try one of the other programs. This is especially true if you’re trying to cut weight for a contest, job requirement or sports team, or are just looking to get rid of your gut.

3rd: TACFIT: Special Ops Style Military Training
TACFIT isn’t your normal fitness guide. In fact, it’s not your normal anything. So what is it? It’s a high-intensity system that mimics the exact some regiments that Special Forces (i.e. Navy Seals) use to keep their bodies in ultimate combat condition. From strength training to endurance conditioning and everything in between, if you’re looking for the hardened “Battle Ready” body, this is your best bet.
Who is it for? The authors say it’s for all fitness levels, but I’d steer clear unless you’re already in decent physical shape or are looking for an all-out, super-intense boot camp workout.
Pros: Super Intense. You’ll not only look like the real deal, you’ll actually BE the real deal. You’ll have so much “functional strength” you might twist bottles in half while trying to twist off the bottle caps.
Cons: Not for the feint of heart. Also, it’s higher priced than the other programs. It’s worth every penny for the person who’s looking for this kind of training, but if you’re just generally looking to get in shape, you’ll probably find it out of your price range.
